Responsible consumption is an integral part of circular living that ensures the well-being of all components of the ecosystem. Simple acts such as replacing plastic with eco-friendly choices and segregating wet and dry waste goes a long way to achieving responsible consumption and production

Vision and Mission

Vision

To cultivate the widespread adoption and sustainable use of use of plastic products so that less use of plastic is done and more reuse of plastic is possible through commitment and unity of community coming together for a cause.

Mission

  • Implement mandatory segregation of wet and dry waste for all major community properties.
  • Ensure zero waste programs for major community events, including Ashara Mubaraka.
  • Facilitate individual minimisation of single-use plastics.

Current Progress

Zero Waste Campaign

The Dawoodi Bohras of Indore launched a ‘Zero Waste’ campaign in collaboration with the Indore Municipal Corporation, Burhani Foundation and Project Rise. Announced under the Government of India’s ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’, the aim of this campaign is to spread awareness about eliminating waste and adopting a sustainable lifestyle.

Dana Committee Efforts

To eliminate food waste, community volunteers formed the ‘Dana Committee’ (Dana meaning a grain of food) under the aegis of the community kitchen ‘Faiz al Mawaid il Burhaniyah’. As of 2021, there are 526 Dana Committees, with 7,853 total members, spread across forty countries who strive to educate people to stop food waste.

‘Happy Nests’ Upcycling Initiative

An upcycling initiative named ‘Happy Nests’ has been launched by Dawoodi Bohra women across the globe to upcycle and transform plastic waste into decorative items and artefacts.
